“You brought the game with you. What would it mean to have a team here?”

As part of our evidence gathering and research we are looking at holding a forum for New South Wales (NSW) & Queensland (QLD) expats who now reside in South Australia but still follow their NRL team.

This is a series of forums that the Adelaide Wants Their Team Back Working Group is looking to hold in 2027.

The objective of this forum is to gain an understanding from NSW & QLD rugby league supporters.

The key objective should be:

To capture the experience and views of people who grew up in rugby league’s traditional heartlands, demonstrate their potential support for rugby league in South Australia, and turn that support into an ongoing community network.

GOALS:

1. Listen and understand

The first goal should simply be to listen.

2. Measure potential support for an Adelaide NRL team

3. Demonstrate that Adelaide’s rugby league audience isn’t limited to people born in SA

4. Identify what would make people support an Adelaide team

5. Find out what Adelaide can learn from Queensland and NSW

6. Recruit people into the campaign

7. Build an “Expats Network”

8. Capture supporter stories

9. Establish a baseline for future research

10. Create a report

The most important outcome

“Listen to the people, understand the opportunity, measure their level of support and give them a pathway to become part of the campaign.”
